For Those Who Struggle with Technology

There are some people, senior or not, who have limited experience with technology. When you’re trying to launch an online career, the foundation you have to work with might be intimidating.

Some seniors feel as if technology flies by them so fast, they can’t keep up. To some degree, that’s true for everyone. There’s always a new gadget or update to something that leaves everyone bewildered.

Listing a product for sale online can be a technological nightmare if you don’t look for the platform’s tutorials. Typically, they’ll have a help section that shows or tells you exactly how to manage your account and list items for sale.

Don’t forget that people can learn from more than one person, just as you’ll be doing when you’re learning the ropes for marketing. Chances are, you’ll learn from a variety of people to teach you blogging, email marketing, traffic and more.

Your followers can be loyal to you and still have multiple niche leaders they trust to guide them with the best information. Sometimes the consumer enjoys having people with different takes on a subject to follow, so don’t try to emulate anyone else – be yourself!

Remember how we talked about the fact that technology changes so fast? Well in some niches, so do the trends. One week the keto diet might be all the rage, and the next, it’s alternate day fasting.

If you’re teaching the weight loss niche, you’ll need to know what’s in demand. That’s true for many niches, even the evergreen ones that have been around for decades. Seniors and others sometimes feel out of the loop with fast trending changes.

The good news is, it’s easy to keep up with, no matter what your age. First, determine where your audience hangs out. Start with social networking sites. You might only be on Facebook, but there’s a whole slew of sites and apps that have a different audience you can get information from in terms of trends.

The most popular right now would be Instagram, Tik Tok (yes, there are people of all ages on there, and a lot of high trending news), Pinterest, Twitter, and more. Those are the ones that are mostly text, image and video-based.

Don’t forget video media platforms like YouTube, too. And podcasts of niche leaders would be a good thing for you to make time to tune into. Pay attention to what content is coming out.

For example, if you see a slew of new diet posts, then learn about it and share that information with your audience. Even if you don’t agree with the strategy, you can still tell them about and add why you believe it’s the wrong path.

If you’re engaging with your audience on your blog or on social media, they’ll ask questions to help guide you in what you need to find out for them. It’s okay to say, “I’m not sure, but I’m going to find out for you.”

Then educate yourself about whatever it is they want to know and share it with your audience. You don’t always have to be the first person blogging about a trend. There’s no race.

Just make sure you’re being thorough with whatever it is you want to guide people about in your niche. If you want to steer clear of all trends, you can do that, too. Just don’t let the fact that others are hopping on those bandwagons intimidate you.

For Those Who Don’t Want to Devote a Lot of Time

When you achieve “senior status”, you might have just ended a long-term career – ready to enjoy your retirement. But then online marketing piques your interest. You could want a career, but not one that sucks all of your time from you.

If you start comparing yourself to other marketers who blog three times a day, release a product every week and who host hourly webinars sever times a month, it might seem like your efforts pale in comparison.

But don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. You can compete in a niche, whether you work 40 hours or just 4 per day. The main thing you want to do is manage your time well.
